Angkor Rural Children Education Project

Welcome to Phansy’s School 15 minutes North of Siem Reap Cambodia. Phansy is One Driver from the year 2002, Phansy's  Cambodian who had the dream to build this school in order to provide free language education to rural chilrdren. In this part of Cambodia, not far from the incredible Angkor Thom temples, tourism is the major employer beyond subsistence farms and family retail businesses, so skills in languages provide a passport for future employment. For 70 + rural children Phansy’s School provides hope, opportunity and support.

The school was built in 20011 with the help of One Traveler from USA supporters , and together with Phansy and his team of teachers the school has made progress – step by step – to provide higher levels of education with better resources. To meet the needs of particularly poor children the school

Volunteers are always welcome here, whether for a day, a week, a month or longer, and we know the experience will be as valuable for you as it will be for the students who come here voluntarily. They really appreciate the gift of free education. School operates in the afternoons,

If you’re traveling in Cambodia why not do something that makes a difference ?

If you are in Siem Reap and visiting the temples of Angkor Wat why not aside ONE DAY, to see the work we are doing, to meet the children themselves and maybe let the children practice their English skills or you could join in the daily tasks or the ongoing projects. Your ideas and your participation will be greatly appreciated and will enrich the lives of our children.

What are the alternatives for these children ?

These children have inherited a country torn by 30 years of Civil War which resulted in the death of over 3 million people- including most officials, teachers, doctors and educated people. A whole generation of experience and leadership was lost. Many other are victims of the war and live now in their villages as cripples and amputees. Very few rural families in this province earn much more that US $ 1 a day and life is particularly hard. Many children only receive a basic primary education as in most cases they are needed by their families to work the land.
Official figures show that 88% of rural  children receive no education at all.

Mission: To ensure that less fortunate children in the rural community are cared for and given educational opportunities which will enable them to break out of the cycle of poverty. Goals : To provide residential care for Children, poor, vulnerable and impoverished children and to ensure that they have full access to education, through school and through vocational training. To provide assistance for children who are living with impoverished families in the villages -in order to enable them to continue with their education and hence open up opportunities for employment. To relieve the hardship of Children , impoverished and vulnerable children whose parents have become the victims of war, landmines . To provide out-of-school English, Mathematics , and objects for exam classes to supplement the School Curriculum -catering for residential and village children. To extend the children’s understanding of, and skills in traditional Khmer culture . To role-model sound ecological principles in the setting up of vegetable gardens, orchards, fish breeding dams and mushroom farms - in addition to developing self sustainability for the children and communities. Vision: For these children to grow up healthy in a caring supportive environment and to receive an education that will enable them to develop into capable and contributing citizens.
